The Woodlands, Texas (Montgomery County Monitor) - Firefighters from The Woodlands, Conroe and Needham fire departments were dispatched at 4:36 a.m. Saturday morning to a residential fire on Hockenberry Place in the Village of Harper's Landing in The Woodlands, Texas. Neighbors calling 9-1-1 reported smoke and fire coming from the garage. The first fire truck arrived on-scene at 4:42 a.m.
One neighbor in the area, Marisol Baez, was on her way to work when she drove by the residence. Baez said she noted smoke coming from the garage of the home and could also see flickering light. She backed up and took a closer look at the home and realized it was on fire.

Baez quickly ran to the door and started banging on it in an attempt to wake anyone inside. While she was at the front door, she heard some small explosions coming from the garage. Not knowing what was about to occur and concerned that no one was answering the door, she ran home to wake her husband. Her husband then ran to the house and began banging on the front door as well. During this time, the family inside had indeed been awakened by Baez.

Once awake, the father went to the garage to investigate. When he opened the door between the garage and the interior of the home, he said smoke and fire could be seen in the garage and the smoke quickly began filling the house. He shut the door, found his wife and two daughters, and literally drug them out the back door of the home.

By this time, firefighters were arriving to find fire coming from the garage. Command was quickly established and firefighters made entrance into the home to verify all occupants were out of the residence and began attacking the fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, largely containing the blaze to the garage and immediate areas.

The owners of the home, missionaries currently spending a year in Iraq teaching English to Iraqis, are due to return home in two weeks.

The family currently residing in the house are also missionaries and were caring for the owners' home and property while they were visiting here in the United States, also teaching and performing their missionary work.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office.

The family expressed their gratitude to Ms. Baez for her quick thinking that saved their lives.
