While the Ford Mustang was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of FM 1488 and Honea Egypt, officers approached the vehicle to apprehend the driver.
According to Rand Henderson of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the vehicle brandished a handgun and shot at the officers. The driver then attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle.
Responding to the gunfire, officers returned fire at the driver of the vehicle, killing him. Other occupants of the vehicle were injured during the encounter.
A female passenger was flown by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas and two other occupants, a male and a female, were transported by ground to Hermann Memorial in The Woodlands, Texas.
No officers or bystanders were injured.
Agencies investigating this incident include: Texas Rangers, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Office of the Montgomery County District Attorney.
Other agencies on-scene included Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Hospital District, Precinct 5 Constables and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
