Magnolia, Texas (Montgomery County Monitor) - Just after 12:00 p.m. Sunday, residents on Durango Creek in Magnolia, Texas called 9-1-1 when they saw smoke pouring from the roof of a home just across the street.

Some witnesses who lived in the area also reported heavy fire was initially evident from the back of the home.

Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Gary Vincent, said when firefighters arrived on-scene, soon after the initial call, they found the residence fully charged with smoke and fire.

Radio traffic indicated the attic was fully involved when firefighters arrived on-scene.

While firefighters worked to contain the fire in this house, they were also concerned with the close proximity of two adjacent houses. There was a real danger these two structures could also ignite. Firefighters successfully prevented damage to the nearby houses. However, according to Vincent, the involved house was a total loss.

The owner of the destroyed structure was not home at the time of the fire and returned from church to find her home ablaze.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

The home-owner's dog was in the house at the time of the fire and did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's office.

Departments responding to the scene included Magnolia, Needham, The Woodlands and Tomball.
