A short time before, The Woodlands and Magnolia Fire Departments were dispatched to another residential fire off of Thymewood Place in The Woodlands. Shortly after arrival at Thymewood, firefighters reported a small extinguished fire.

However, when firefighters arrived on-scene at Magnolia Pond, they found smoke and fire coming from the roof. Crews entered the home and cut a hole in the roof in order to ventilate the fire.
Damage from a lightning strike to a pine tree located in the front-yard was clearly visible.
Neighbors worked to call the homeowners and to make sure adjacent homes were not occupied. Emergency personnel made forced entry into one of the nearby homes due to neighbor's concerns when they were unable to contact the occupants by phone. A search of the house revealed no occupants in the structure.
No injuries were reported.
According to a representative from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office, the cause of the fire was a lightning strike.
