Information from witnesses and law enforcement officials on-scene indicates a 28 year old male, the lone occupant of the vehicle, failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Rayford Road and Imperial Oaks Boulevard. A Deputy Constable witnessed the traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle immediately pulled to the side of the road. The deputy approached the vehicle and asked the driver if he realized he had failed to stop at the red light. Without responding to the question, the driver pushed the accelerator to the floor and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
Shortly thereafter, the suspect lost control of his vehicle rolling several times before coming to rest adjacent to the construction area on Rayford Road in the "S" curves.
The suspect's vehicle was severely damaged, entrapping the driver. Firefighters worked to free the individual and completed extrication in approximately 20 minutes. Due to possible head injuries and mechanism of injury, the suspect was flown by air ambulance to a treatment facility in Houston, TX.
Several other drivers on Rayford Road witnessed the entire incident.
Witnesses also reported a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle shortly after the accident.
