Windows Internet Explorer users have the ability to use two different live scanner feed players. Clicking on the Windows Media Player link on the Live Scanner Feeds page will automatically launch Windows Media Player. Once the player is launched the feed stream will automatically begin to play after a short time. For those with Windows based computers this option should be the easiest option for listening to the live scanner feeds.
In addition, Windows Internet Explorer users as well as non-Windows users can use the Winamp Player to listen to the live scanner feeds. We highly recommend using the Winamp Player to listen to the live scanner feeds. Those using the Winamp Player are able to receive an additional data feed (metadata) that includes channel information. This channel information is decoded by the Winamp Player and is displayed as text indicating the current broadcast channel. Access to current broadcast channel information will assist listeners in determining the geographical origin of each audio transmission.
In the future we will provide more detailed information regarding the standard audio traffic a visitor may hear while listening to the live scanner feeds. The additional information will include details on unit numbers, department numbers, etc. as well as general information visitors may find helpful.
The live scanner feeds have only been tested with Windows Media Player version 9 and Winamp 5.35. Other programs may or may not work with the links provided on the Live Scanner Feeds page.
